PIPE Unbeaten, Gold-Square Cut Brief – An Xpress review from Guys Underwear Blog
A few weeks ago, men’s underwear innovator, PIPE, sent me a bunch of samples from their recent Unbeaten collection. Last week I finally found the time to properly try on the different cuts, including today’s item – the Gold-Square Cut Brief.
When you first unwrap this pair of squarecuts/trunks, it becomes apparent that PIPE has put a lot of effort into this collection. Honestly, and without exaggerating, I can say that this range is unlike anything I have seen before.
And it’s all down to one little discrete detail – one that makes a world of difference.
Want to know what it is? I’ll tell you in my review below.
First of all, let’s have a look at what we’re dealing with here.
| Feature | Verdict |
| Style and look | From afar the PIPE Unbeaten, Gold-Square Cut Brief is traditionally looking trunk cut. It comes with quite a wide 2 inch waistband, giving it a very masculine look. Only one small minus. The waistband consists of an elastic band loosely wrapped in a cotton fabric tube. This means that the elastic band can twist and spin within the cotton wrapping, which to me is a tad annoying.
BUT, and this is a big but, this doesn’t subtract from the overall look and feel of this trunk. Especially, this slight flaw is massively outweighed by the cut’s defining detail, a number black gloss, elastic bands printed around the front pouch, in an arch over the upper thigh, and across the butt. These lines do an excellent job exaggerating not only an illusion, but also very real feeling, of enhancement and lift. This effect is truly amazing to me, and the best thing is that you are not in any way annoyed by the elastic bands, since they are only printed on the outside of the trunk. |
| Suitable for? | Due to its 93 % cotton, 7 % Spandex fabric composition, the PIPE Unbeaten Gold-Square Cut Brief is a perfect choice for everyday wear. The lift and enhancement features also make the trunk a suitable choice for fun nights out, even for guys who are not usually into enhancement underwear. The effect is subtle but noticeable – your package will be looking impressive, but grossly over-sized. |
| Fit and quality? | The trunk had plenty of stretch so the fit was fine. Notice that I wore a size L for a 32/33 inch waist. Make sure to follow the washing instructions as this trunk is best off being hand-washed. |
| Is the price right? | The PIPE Unbeaten, Gold-Square Cut Brief is US $26 in PIPE’s own web store. I think the price is absolutely fair since we are talking about a pretty innovating take on men’s enhancement underwear. |
| Best thing about it? | There can be no doubt. The printed, elastic, rubber-like bands are subtle details when looking at the trunk – but put it on and these bands come to life and add that extra oomph which underwear enthusiasts like myself crave once in a while. Well done! |
| Overall grade | ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In spite of my concerns about the waistband design, the lift and and enhancement features of the Unbeaten Gold-Square Cut Brief have me pulling out the top grade for this trunk. I wear a lot of good underwear, but I reserve the top grades for the truly innovative underwear. This is one such pair. |

| Typical boxer brief/trunk look with legs of proper length, ending in the mid-to-upper thigh area. Satisfactory pouch room and back coverage. A modern yet conservatively looking trunk with a discrete waistband for guys who are looking for a pair of no-bullshit basic trunks. |
