It’s poll time, people!

This week’s men’s underwear poll is inspired by this year’s FIFA Soccer/Football World Cup.

I’ve been watching a LOT of matches. And too many of them were incredibly boring, not enough action, too few goals. Not that I’m much of a sports junkie to begin with, but I’d much rather watch a game of (American) football. And those insanely annoying vuvuzela horns don’t exactly add to the fun!

So, at times my mind drifts off, and yesterday I started to wonder. What type of underwear are those soccer players actually wearing underneath the soccer shorts…?

In the match between the US and Slovenia I noticed that the US players wear Nike Pro underwear.

The team that took home the trophy in the end, Spain, naturally wear Adidas underwear – their official gear sponsor:

And by now we’ve established that at least the Italian national soccer team wears those very attractive Dolce and Gabbana Calcio briefs. Oh, and D&G seems to have an endless supply of fresh video snippets from the steamy locker room photo shoot. And remember, Vanity Fair gave us a hint that Christiano Ronaldo likes his Armani trunks. Yet, somehow I doubt he wears those on the pitch.

In general, I am sure professional (European) soccer players wear all sorts of underwear from sports briefs and boxer briefs to those high-tech (and non-flattering) compression shorts.

In the US I guess it’s the same, though athletic supporters (jockstraps) are still common for guys to wear when playing football or baseball.

But what about when you go to the gym? Or when you go running?

Do you wear a special kind of breathable sports underwear? Or do you just not care and wear regular cotton-based underwear? Or maybe you’re a good old-fashioned jockstrap man?

Myself? I always wear a lightweight brief, typically made from a stretchy and supportive nylon/lycra fabric blend, like the Calvin Klein Tech Active Hip Brief.

So guys, the question is: What underwear do you wear for sports activities?
