This is a question that has been puzzling us for ages: How much money does the average man spend on underwear?

By now we know all about what kind of underwear and swimwear you guys wear, what size, what color, and who buys it for you.

Actually, a while back we did our own poll and asked you how much money you would spend on a pair of men’s underwear. More than 300 responded to the poll, and the results showed that the majority of you guys “only” would spend $20 or less on your undies.

We spend A LOT more, ha!

Well, now British men’s underwear store Urbanalpha.co.uk has compiled a very interesting infographic with loads of interesting underwear statistics.

And according this, on average, men spend only £1,200 on underwear – IN AN ENTIRE LIFETIME! That’s about $1,860 USD – or less than 100 pairs if you spend $20 per pair.

We’ll admit, we’re a bit shocked. Especially since the statistics show that women, on average, spend more than £20,000 on underwear in a lifetime – that’s more than $31,000 USD!

Other fun statistics compiled in the inforgraphic include

• A guy once wore 144 different pairs of underwear in 1 hour. That’s a world record we approve of!
• 29 % of Britons say they would be turned off sleeping with a new partner due to unsightly underwear

What’s the lesson here guys? Buy more stylish underwear and wash it often and properly. Chances are your romantic life will flourish because of it.

So, this is fun!

The guys over at Julianna Rae recently compiled a fascinating infographic over various statistics about the underwear habits and preferences of American men and women.

We bet you’ll find some of these statistics quite surprising – maybe even shocking!

First off, the question of boxers vs. briefs has been around as long as underwear has existed. NoW, there’s an interesting new take on this old discussion:

According to pollwizard.com, 63 % of men and women prefer briefs on men!

We like those statistics! Hurray. We prefer briefs on men, too.

And actually, it fits quite well with our own men’s underwear preference poll which more than 2,400 guys have taken part in.

Our poll shows that 33 % of men prefer to wear briefs. In second place come boxer briefs with 29 %. Just 12,50 % of men prefer traditional boxers. That’s even less than thongs (13 %).

But that’s not all. Julianna Rae reveals many more amusing underwear stats.

Like, 25 % of American men own underwear that’s more than 5 years old. 11 % own underwear that’s more than 10 years old!!

If you fall into either of those categories, it’s seriously time to invest in some new undies…

And what do you wear to bed? Well, apparently most of us wear nothing at all (44 %) while just 31 % wear underwear. Wow.

Hello Gubbers! You, our fans that is. It’s an exciting day for us all as we announce the very first set of finalists in the “Fan Picture of the Month” contest.

This month our winner will recieve a pair of 2(x)ist Neon underwear, I have two pair and let me tell you they are awesome! Of course I will also have a review out on them soon so you can read all about them.

We recieved a lot of great pictures from you guys and we thank you so much for participating and if your picture didn’t make the line up, no worries, it will be kept on file and automatically entered into the coming months contests.

The pictures this month showcase some fun personality and creativity with underwear. And although we prefer you not hide your beautiful face from us this “LORD” brand underwear stired up quite a fun conversation on out facebook page a while back, and I just couldn’t ignore that.

So, I received this e-mail from a follower of the Guys’ Underwear Blog, and it got me wondering; is the classic sport brief on its way out in favor of more modern designs?

Here’s what Edwin wrote:

I’ve always liked sport briefs, particularly the ones by Calvin Klein. The U1060′s with their thick, soft waistband provided the feel and look of a jockstrap in the front, while maintaining the characteristics of a brief in the back.  I only bought 2 of those at the time and was amazed at how quickly they sold out.

I had similar experiences with the U4152, which had the ribbed cotton look and a thinner, less comfortable waistband.  After about a year or so, I couldn’t find them for sale anymore.  The latest examples are the U2745 with its characteristic red stripe on top of the waistband, and the superior U1683, arguably the most comfortable of them all.  Both of them are out of stock, everywhere.  You can still find some on eBay but most of them are in size Small.

Currently, Calvin Klein has no sports briefs for sale.  None. Apparently, no other brand has anything comparable, except for 2(x)ist’s Sliq sport brief which has a very thin waistband and is less comfortable than most of the comparable Calvin Klein products were. Do you happen to know why this style of men’s underwear seems to be all-but-dead?  I find this development interesting.

Here’s what I think…

It is true that some of the huge mainstream brands like CK seem to have abandoned the classic sport brief (tanga) cut. Their reasons for doing so could be many; lack of sales, tough market, fashion changes etc. I speculate that guys who used to buy the classic CK sport briefs have now turned to brands such as 2(x)ist, N2N, Magic Silk, and Sloggi.

I don’t think, though, we’ll ever see the sport brief vanish completely. It’s a very distinct cut and one enjoyed by many guys, especially for sports purposes, obviously.

Judging from my sports underwear poll from last summer it doesn’t seem like guys in great numbers are about to drop the traditional sport brief (or the jockstrap) in favor of, for example, the compression short.

And in fact, just yesterday, N2N revealed a stunning new sport brief as part of their 2011 underwear range launch.

So, guys, take a good look at the sport briefs below the poll and share your opinion:

There’s no getting around BONE WEAR these days.

The South African men’s underwear brand is now releasing its first ever line of jockstraps. For 6,53 % of you this is good news!

That’s right, 6,53 % of our readers wear jockstraps as their preferred type of underwear. We know because more than 1,400 of you have answered the question: what type of men’s underwear do you prefer? Want to know the most popular style? Check out the poll…

Anyway, I’m getting off track. We see a number of US and international underwear stores starting to carry BONE WEAR, including Guys’ Underwear Blog favorite, UnderBriefs. For sure, this a trend that won’t be fading anytime soon.

Congratulations! I can’t say I was that surprised, though. It’s an absolute perfect brief and the 2(x)ist team has been eager at getting their fans to vote.

Recently I heard a statistics stating that about 1/3 of men today have their girlfriend or wife buy underwear for them.

I’m not that surprised, actually. Since you’re reading this, it may shock you to hear that there still are a lot of men out there who really don’t care about their underwear.

I know! It’s hard to believe.

Hopefully these men have partners who do care just a little.

I guess that’s why the Beckham and Ronaldo Armani ads are so successful. Men who want the look of the greatest soccer stars on earth buy the underwear themselves. And men who don’t care is given the hyped Armani underwear by their partners who want their men to look like Beckham. Smart move.

But in all seriousness, who buys your underwear? As far as I can remember I’ve only ever been given underwear once or twice the last 10 years (I’m 26 today). Besides, of course, from all the underwear samples I get for reviews on this site
