So, the soccer world cup still rages on in South Africa.
On the sidelines, the soccer players’ underwear frequently becomes the center attention. As it should be. Ha!
First and foremost, there was the infamous and extremely buzzed about Vanity Fair photo shoot which had numerous footballers, including Portuguese Christiano Ronaldo, strip to their flag-themed boxer briefs.
And Christiano Ronaldo never seems to miss an opportunity to show off his underwear. Just last week Armani released some brand new underwear ads featuring the famed star.
And who could have missed the release of Dolce & Gabbana’s Calcio underwear collection. Who did they choose for underwear models? Of course, some of Italy’s greatest national soccer stars.
Oh, and by the way. D&G just released a new behind-the-scenes video from the photo shoot. If you’re into athletes in fashionable briefs, check out the video.
But the fun doesn’t end there, my friends. Apparently, the national English soccer team had their underwear stolen while staying at a South African hotel! I wonder what kind and brand of underwear the English chaps are wearing…
And finally, we come back to the point of the blog title. Via a recent post by underwear blog, Brief Lines, it came to my attention that Argentinian soccer super star, Linoel Messi, acts as official underwear model for the brand, Lody – and has been for several years! Who knew :)
I’m not sure that he’s got the same underwear star power as nearly-pros Ronaldo and Beckham. But any attempt to promote quality underwear must be applauded.
What do you think about the model potential by Lionel Messi?
Dolce & Gabbana has released yet another behind-the-scenes video from the shooting of the campaign for their new Calcio collection.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last month or so, you will have come across some of the promotional pics (or indeed videos) for the D&G Calcio men’s underwear collection.
The campaign took off back in April with a series of attention-grabbing Calcio ads featuring Italian soccer super stars, Antonio Di Natale, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Claudio Marchisio, Federico Marchetti and Domenico Criscito.
Then, in the beginning of May, a new video emerged from the photo shoot focusing on the world cup 2010 styles, decorated with the colors of the Italian flag.
As if that wasn’t enough, last week a video surfaced from the same photo shoot. This time around the clip focused more on some of the other styles available in the Calcio range with some nice underwear closeups.
You shouldn’t think it was possible, but this week Dolce & Gabbana’s Youtube channel premiered one more video from that very same photo shoot! And somehow they’ve managed to squeeze not-seen-before video footage out of the shoot.
Well done, D&G. You really know how to keep a buzz alive.
This final video (who knows?) shows many more clips of the Calcio designs and cuts. Once again we see lots of closeups, and I am starting to get high expectations to this collection.
D&G themselves help fuel these expectations by describing the Calcio briefs as “flattering, following the bodylines and cleverly designed to bring comfort and style.”
To me it’s the best video yet, as it gives you a very vivid idea of what the styles look like when worn.
I wouldn’t mind it if D&G has got a few more videos from this photo shoot in the making.
The D&G Calcio men’s underwear range has got to be one of the brand’s most successful judging from the amount of attention the accompanying campaign is getting.
But then again, D&G is using the oldest tricks in the in the marketing book.
- Hire famous soccer players as underwear models – women (and some men) want them, every man on the planet want to be them.
- Shoot a hot campaign, record it on video, and release behind-the-scenes teasers on Youtube to create a viral buzz.
- Spin the campaign around major international events (i.e. the world cup) to win even more attention.
So I am pleased to be able to bring you the latest behind-the-scenes video teaser, featuring new clips of Dolce&Gabbana Calcio underwear campaign.
Once again, the video includes footage of five of the most popular Italian football (soccer) players; Antonio Di Natale, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Claudio Marchisio, Federico Marchetti and Domenico Criscito, photographed by Mariano Vivanco in a vintage style changing room.
I actually like this clip better than the first one since we get to see some more close-ups of the various Calcio underwear styles.
Fun fact, D&G actually sponsors one of Italy’s top soccer teams, AC Milan. Thank you to UndiesDrawer to bringing this to my attention.
Happy Whitsun, guys, and enjoy the Calcio clip.
UPDATE: D&G did another Calcio video with even more closeups of the many available underwear styles.
D&G men’s underwear: Behind the scenes video of Italian soccer players posing for new Calcio collection
D&G have scored major attention with their latest men’s underwear campaign for the new Calcio collection.
Now the Italian fashion powerhouse has released yet another video snippet, once again taking us behind the scenes of the steaming underwear photo shoot which featured Italian soccer stars Antonio Di Natale, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Claudio Marchisio, Federico Marchetti and Domenico Criscito.
The D&G Calcio men’s underwear range looks promising, and I don’t doubt it will peak during the 2010 soccer word cup in South Africa. In fact, as you may have read here on Guys’ Underwear Blog, a lot of men’s underwear brands are doing various flag and nations underwear collections…
Don’t forget to also check out Vanity Fair’s World Cup Flag underwear cover featuring soccer stars like Christiano Ronaldo.
In this video, you see the soccer stars preparing for the photo shoot as well posing for the cameras in their D&G briefs.
I think it’s nice to see D&G do some proper video promotion for their men’s underwear lines.
Let’s hope they keep it up.
UPDATE. They did keep it up! D&G has released a brand new behind-the-scenes video from the Calcio photo shoot. Watch it now.
UPDATE 2: D&G did another Calcio video with even more closeups of the many available underwear styles.
Dolce & Gabbana is a men’s underwear brand that really knows how to create a buzz with their advertising campaigns. Like fellow high-end Italian underwear maker, Armani, D&G has preference for using super fit European soccer stars as full-on male underwear models.
And D&G never disappoints when it comes to their male underwear ads. If you haven’t already seen it, you won’t want to miss their last behind-the-scenes video from an underwear photo shoot featuring some Italy’s hottest best swimmers.
This time around it is the Italian footballers who take center stage in a new advertising campaign for Dolce and Gabbana’s 2010 summer men’s underwear collection, Calcio. Meet Antonio Di Natale, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Claudio Marchisio, Federico Marchetti and Domenico Criscito.
Scroll to the bottom of the post to watch the brand new behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot for the Calcio underwear collection.
Don’t forget to watch my other video featuring behind-the-scenes action from that same D&G Calcio photo shoot!

UPDATE 2: D&G did another Calcio video with even more closeups of the many available underwear styles.
The campaign was shot in front of a locker room shower stall and was done by the internationally known fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco, who has worked on previous Dolce & Gabbana campaigns.
I’ve been trying to dig up some additional info on the up-coming Calcio men’s underwear range. Rumor has it that the collection will be out in mid-may 2010. Keep an eye out for the new D&G styles at HisRoom.com which offers a broad range of D&G underwear products.
From the pictures and video it seems that Calcio collection will feature briefs, low rise briefs, and trunks with a fairly wide waistband. It’s difficult to determine the type of fabric but probably it’ll be some type of cotton blend.
Fun fact: Calcio is Italian for “football [soccer]” :)
Thanks to UNB for bringing my attention to this video.
Oh, and incidentally this my 100th post. Can’t wait to do 100 more :)
Easter is nearing and what better way to kick off the holiday than with a good old men’s underwear fashion show from the archives.
Specifically, this 2008 video is from the guys over at Universal Gear. It features a professionally produced male underwear fashion show with some of the best brands on display, including 2(x)ist, Diesel, D&G, and C-IN2.
Looking for more on 2(x)ist? Watch the 2(x)ist ad that got banned from several major magazines!
The show gathers all my favorite cuts such as briefs, trunks, and boxer briefs as well as a sea of low rise styles.
You can read a lot more about each of the men’s underwear brands featured on the runway here on Guys’ Underwear Blog. All of them are some of my major favorites – great quality, great designs, and best of all, there’s something for every wallet size.
Happy Easter guys!
If you’ve been following my blog, it’s no secret that my preferred men’s underwear style is the brief. Put shortly, it’s the most comfortable, the most supportive, and the most sexy type of underwear – period :)
If you’re a fellow underwear enthusiast you also know that there are literally thousands of brands, colors, and styles of brief underwear for men. And yet, it’s usually the more simple, classic designs that become the most popular. I was reminded of this today as I browsed through the latest blog entries by some of my favorite underwear bloggers.
UnderwearFanatic has these recurring entries called Fanatic Foto, where he displays some of the best underwear footage out there – and the other day the entry featured a guy wearing what I believe to be Calvin Klein 365 briefs. Of course, I own a pair and it’s one of my favorites and it comes with my best recommendations.
The other day, he posted a picture of a guy (who like the dude in the Calvin Klein photo is doing his best Beckham pose) in white D&B briefs. I am not sure of the specific style of briefs, but it certainly looks hot…
Naturally, D&G is in another price range than Calvin Klein, but then, the quality of the fabric and the overall finish is superb.
So, guys, no video today. But check back tomorrow, where I will be posting new underwear videos yet again!
Ever wondered what it takes to be a male underwear model? Well, this video gives you a pretty good idea!
Dolce & Gabbana used some very fit Italian swimmers to fill the role of underwear models for a day. As you will see, it takes quite some preparation to look good on camera.
These guys help trim eavh other’s leg hair, shave, and pose. It’s a tough job being an underwear model. I sure hope they get to keep the underwear :)
Anyway, loads of briefs on display in this video as well as some swim wear. I really like the D&G styles and actually think about purchasing some after seeing this video. As for getting in shape to look like the swimmers…that’s a whole other story.
